Module 7 - Video in the Classroom

http://prezi.com/hxiyuh5s8c8y/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share

The video of Chris Anderson talks about how the rise of web video could be as big as the invention of print.  He uses light, dance, and desire to demonstrate how fast web videos can spread.  He uses street dancing as an example.  He talks about how people used to dance in the street and only the street corner could see it, but now with web video, it is viewable to the whole world and the trends of dance can be picked up by pop culture much faster than before web video.  He talks about the light being a very good thing and good videos being viewable to audiences much larger than stadiums.  The desire is a result of other people interested in videos seeing them and transcending their area of interest much faster.  He talks about how the internet has accelerated innovation greatly.  He also uses a unicycler as an example.  He talks about how a kid is able to post his video and other unicyclers see his video and post their own.  Then others are able to post their own videos and unicycling is transcended and grows in popularity as a result.  He brings up an example of what Guttenburg did for writing with the printing press, web video can do for face to face communication.  He finishes the video talking about how people can learn from each others ideas much faster using web video.

The article Meaningful Digital Video for Every Classroom discusses how to make the use of technology beneficial to classroom settings.  It discusses how classrooms today are much more technology ready than the old camcorder classrooms.  Today it is much easier to create and edit videos. Students can learn at a younger age to create videos and thus, their video making skills are better when they are in high school and college.  It talks about using kits to do this and how there are levels of video and how each level should have a kit.  It ends talking about how not every school has the money to acquire these kits but the use of technology is getting easier to access all the time and can be very beneficial to students.

Kahoot Quiz
https://create.kahoot.it/#quiz/49b5e59d-80ba-49f2-a948-0fc16f1e185c

A couple ways to integrate technology in Physical Education are by Youtube instructional videos and Kahoot quizzes.  For my lesson plan, I included a Kahoot quiz on running form that I assigned as homework for students that they were to do before class.  It is a short quiz that gives a good overview of basic running techniques.  I also had the students watch a Youtube video before we started shooting that went over the basic fundamentals of shooting.  It would most easily be watched on an iPad to save time.  The quiz and video will give students a better understanding of how to run more efficiently to make them faster, and how to have good shooting form to make their shots more accurate.

The quiz and Youtube video apply to the SAMR model on the Augmentation level.  The Kahoot quiz is on the Augmentation level because students can do them anywhere and they are immediately given their results so they know proper running form.  The Youtube video is considered the Augmentation level because it would be watched on an iPad in the gym using wireless internet to save time over going to a computer and allows for more time during the class period for students to practice their shooting.  It applies to Bloom's Taxonomy because the videos and quizzes clearly define what me, as a teacher, am looking for while students participate in activities.

Football Throwing Mechanics

Below is a link to a thinglink presentation on proper football throwing mechanics.  It shows videos of basic fundamentals, things like the three and five step drops, proper stances, different drills, and other things.  It would be a good presentation to show young quarterbacks who are interested in getting better.  Presentations like this could also be made for other positions.  It would be beneficial in other sports as well.  I like thinglink presentations because it is easy to use and much more interesting than your typical powerpoint presentations.  There are a lot of ways to use these presentations.  By posting links to these presentations on your blog it allows for students, athletes, parents, and coaches to have easy access to some very good information.

Proper Running Form Quiz - Kahoot

Below is a link to a "Kahoot" quiz I created.  It is on the principles of proper running technique.  It could be very beneficial to middle school level students and would serve as a good reminder to high school students and athletes.  It is a 10 question multiple choice quiz on the basic fundamentals of running.  It could also be used for parents to help teach their grade school children proper running techniques at home.  I like the idea of using Kahoot quizzes because it is a fun and competitive way to quiz students on important information they should know about sports.  I developed this quiz by using examples from a track and field guidebook I got while taking a Coaching Track and Field class here at Doane, examples from texts and field experience from working with Phys Ed instructor Cindy Meyer here at Doane, and different online articles.

Intro Blog

My goals for this blog this semester is to get a better understanding of how blogs work and how they can be applied in the classroom.  I think they can be very beneficial but I am rather inexperienced with them so far.  I think good ways to use the blog when I become a teacher and coach will be to give updates on how sport seasons are going.  As a PE teacher I could have students put up news about their favorite teams.  It could also be a good way to notify parents about fundraisers and different activities that are going on.
